Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin in the hair follicle. When the surrounding skin also carries abundant melanin, the margin for error narrows — which is why device selection matters more than price.
Wavelength decides safety
Nd:YAG at 1064 nm penetrates deeply and is comparatively poorly absorbed by epidermal melanin, making it the safest choice for Fitzpatrick IV and V. Diode at 810 nm can be used with robust cooling and conservative fluence. Intense pulsed light is a poor choice for deeper phototypes and is the most common cause of the burns we see referred to us.

- Ask whether a test patch will be performed and read after 48 hours

- Expect six to eight sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart

It produces permanent hair reduction, not total permanent removal. Most patients maintain with one or two sessions per year.
Can I have laser during summer in Cairo?

Does it help with ingrown hairs?
Significantly. Reduction in ingrown hairs and folliculitis is often the earliest benefit patients notice.
